This time of year makes me really nostagalic. Usually, it's because of the string of high school events that are going on. (IE prom, graduation) So, I decided to go back in time and give you all couple of throwbacks of some of my favorite high school memories!

Going through all of these pictures really made me nostalgic. I still can't believe I graduated almost three years ago. What were your favorite memories in high school? Comment below!

"Like Tattoos on This Town"

Ahhh, #throwbackThursday. The time when all of your old and embarassing selfies come back to haunt you. This is when we see who was the brace-face, who was the awkward one, and of course those awful scene days when you'd listen to nothing to but scene music. Sound familiar? Well, we're going wayyy back here on Finding My Voice.
While at work, I often take to casually clicking around at various social networking sites. So, one day I decided to look back to my high school days. #classof2012. So, here's some of my fondest high school memories, from 2008-2012.

At my high school, we had this awesome thing where at the end of the year, we would have a sidewalk chalk festival. I only got to do it my senior year, and I drew Snoopy with my friend Iris. It was such a fun filled day, and I got hella tan.

My prom was perhaps one of the highlights of my high school experience. I went with Griffin whose one of my closest friends. (He asked me to go to the prom because I didn't have anyone to go with #bestpersoneveraward.) I wore a purple dress, and I didn't let him see it literally til the day of. In the midst of all of prom, a lot of my friends were fighting, and lots of cat-fighting going on. However, it was still a great day. (And for the record, I stayed New Jersey out of it)

I got to go to New York three times! Each time, I went to see a Broadway show. The first time (which is when this picture was being taken) was in my freshman year. We saw West Side Story. The second time was in my junior year. We saw How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying. AND Daniel Radicliffe was in it. How awesome was that? The last year (which was my senior year) we saw Newsies. It was such a great experience, and I miss going to all of those shows.

I used to make lots of obnoxious faces. Anyways, I went to two high school dances other than prom. (Homecoming 2008, and 2011) I honestly don't remember why I didn't go my juinor year, but my sophomore year it was because I had just gone through a breakup. Both times I went were super-fun and I had a blast dancing with my friends.

I went to Panera a lot. My high school was actually right next to one, so I would often be found there eating soup. Those are some of my high school friends, engaging in a Panera selfie! I miss them.

While in high school, I met these two classy individuals. I met Griffin in junior year band class. He sat next to me, we played the same instrument, and now to this day, I still drive him crazy. I met Gabriel in expository writing class my senior year. We didn't get very close to the end, and the next semester, when we actually had sociology together.

In my upperclassman days in high school, I played on the badminton team. Now, I wasn't very good at it, but still I had an amazing time. During my senior year when my grandfather died, they were my support. (I played a game the day after he died too, just saying that's pretty awesome.) Playing for two years really helped introduce me to people that I otherwise wouldn't have gotten the opportunity to meet. Plus, I was the one always taking pictures.

I used to Picnik a lot. Who remembers seeing these on Facebook? Well I was obsessed  with them. Sarah was my friend from choir, and I still talk to her today!

#TBT-00s Hits.

Hey guys, this blog entry is picture less, because I still don't know how to add pictures on my computer. If anyone blogs from a mac, please let me know! 

We all remember these songs, as if they were yesterday. They were playing on our iPod nanos, and they were on repeat. These are the songs that rocked my preteen years, on my windows computer. Here's a few of my favorites from the new millennium.

Best of Both Worlds by Hannah Montana;Before there was Miley Cyrus tweaking on the VMAs, there was Hannah Montana. And she rocked the worlds of pretty much every person in my middle school back in 2006. She was on the pink iPod nanos of many people, and the television of everything. It's safe to say I was a big Hannah fan through out my middle school days. It's kinda strange to see Miley in her wrecking ball era, but I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Hannah. Even though they were the same person.
Thanks for the Memories by Fall Out Boy; This was my jam the summer before 8th grade. I learned about this song I think through a commercial, and when I first got my iPod I literally listened to that song on repeat. I still actually have this song on my current iTunes, and am still a huge Fall Out Boy fan. (My Songs Know What You Did In the Dark is actually now playing on my iTunes as I type this.) However, I will always remember that first song that made me fall in love with the band. No pun intended.
Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani; Thanks to Gwen Stefani, I know how to spell the word banana. End of the story.
Lala Land by Demi Lovato; Demi was my idol even back in my freshman year of high school. Lala land and Get Back were always playing on my iPod. However, back then I didn't have the respect for her as an artist as I do now.
Lollipop by Lil Wayne; This song reminds me of my middle school days when I actually thought rap was cool. Now looking back, I know what this song actually means. Needless to say, it's not actually about candy. However, I'll be listening to this song as I'm going to my eighth grade dance. But now, I don't listen to that music. Like at all.

The following is a poem I've written about some of my friends! All work and photographs are my own. 

1.

Let’s sit on a silver metal table,

Where pop music plays from the speakers above us.

Cary Rae Jepson asks some boy to call her maybe,

One Direction says that you don’t know you’re beautiful.

We’re eating Fro Yo from pink and yellow cups.

In between bites,

We share advice about boys, and life.

I noticed that her accent is slowly becoming American.

2.

He picks me up in his tic-tac green mini van.

His hair is purple, and he’s wearing funky sunglasses.

Nirvana’s blasting from the radio,

He’s slowly growing to like grunge.

We pick up his little sister,

Who is slowly becoming like my own.

Where does this road to nowhere lead to?

It leads to Starbucks,

“NQ I need my coffee”, he said.

It leads to parks,

“NQ, I want to go somewhere pretty”, he said, his eyes begging like a puppy.

And it leads to long scenic walks in random places.

“NQ, let’s go for a walk”, he says jumping up and down.

Yes, he had too much coffee.

On those walks,

We talk about life, the future, and just about everything else.

When he ditches the green backpack,

 And escapes the crowded hallways of high school,

He’s a different person.

The adventurous person in front of me is

Totally different then the quiet person who always has his nose in a book.

Whether it was exploring the unknown,

Discovering the river,

Or when he puts me his back, as if I weighed as much as that backpack.

During that time,

The summer between my senior year of high school,

And my freshman year in college

You would listen to me,

Even when I think no one else was.

“Go team!” we’d cheer from the sidelines.

We’d talk about that hot guy in my math class,

And the guy in your EDU class.

Swoosh!

Bobcats won yet again!

5.

Let’s hear it for the good times,

When I would eat fro yo, with Alessia whose now back in Italy.

When I would drive around aimlessly with Gabriel, whose now in Saint Paul.

When I went to QU with Elisia whose now at QU.

When I would walk the Canal Trail with Griffin, who doesn’t know where he’s going .

I got the idea for this on the lovely Raewyn's blog (Read her awesome post here!) And decided to try it. Talk about a throwback. I mean come on, who doesn't remember these?


Where’s the closest hoodie to you right now? I have no clue. 

What restaurant do you think has the Best French Fries? A local diner in my hometown has the best french fries but honestly Red Robin also is a close second. 

When’s the last time you played the board game Clue? I honestly don't remember. 

Who did you last get in an argument with? Probably one of my friends, but I don't remember.

Do you think you could live without your cell phone?: Nope. 

Where is your dad right now?: That's a good question my friends.

How many people do you know of named Adam? At least 2. 

How about Jessica’s? Quite a few. 

Do you do your homework? Everyday, cause if you don't in college you're screwed.

Are you friends with any cheerleaders?:My cousin's a cheerleader? But yeah, I am. 

What was the last thing you burnt? My tongue on my tea.

What was the last picture you took? A picture of the tree outside my house. 

Is your computer slow right now?: Always. 

What’s the best thing about your mom?: Hm, other than the fact that she's probably the most independent person that I know, in addition to being the best mom ever, I've got nothing. 

Have you seen your best friend naked?: Of course, who hasn't? (I'm being sarcastic.) 

Have you ever been in the hospital?: Yes.

Would you date someone that none of your friends like?: Yeah, because at the end of the day it's my decision who I date, not theirs. 

Does your phone have to be charged every day? Not really, but I'm weird and wasteful so yes.

When is the last time you held hands with someone? Right before Gabriel left. 

If you woke up as the opposite gender, what’s the 1st thing you would do? Be very confused. 

Who did you last hug? Gabriel when he left.  

Have you ever crawled through a window? Duh, that's what all of the cool kids do nowadays. Just kidding I'm not that awesome. 

Where is your mom? Working at her job. 

Morning or night person? "I always preferred noon..." 

What was the last movie you watched? American Hustle.

Any cool scars? Nope.  

Things about the opposite sex you notice first? Either my sense of humor, or my extensive knowledge of Freud.  

What career would you wish to be in? Writer is where it's at, yo. 

Do you want a well-paying job or a job you enjoy? enjoy. 

When were you last on your phone? About an hour ago talking to my homeboy Gabriel. 

What were the shoes you wore today? My fake UGGs with buttons. 

Do you like math? Nope, we are mortal enimies. 

Are you currently in a relationship? Maybe I am..maybe I am not. You can be the judge of that.

Do you like hugs? Duh, who doesn't?

Where do you want to go to college? Since I go to college, I don't see the point of this question.
