#inspirationmovement-Press Delete

Some people that we surround ourselves with sometimes can be toxic, and not good for us. They are the type of people that bring you down, and the type of people that make you question whether or not things are actually okay, when they really are.
Some people just suck, in plain English.
I believe that you have to surround yourself with people that make you happy. That make you feel good about yourself, instead of completely horrible about you're actions. I think that it sucks that some people just take out their negativity out on you, when you have nothing to do with it.
What I've been doing lately is putting limits on people who do make me feel good. I believe that you are who you surround yourself with, and I couldn't agree more. Therefore, when you surround yourself with people that make you feel good about yourself, then you do.
I am blessed to say that I hang out with some of the coolest people ever. Some of my closest friends include Elisia, Emma, Gabriel, and a few other ones I met in high school. I try to hang out with people who bring me up instead of down. If a person makes me feel uncomfortable, then I do in fact have the right to say 'I'm uncomfortable hanging out with this person, I don't want to be around them anymore.' And then, I limit the time that I spend with them. I have the power to do that, and no, I'm not a horrible person for feeling this way. I'm done with hanging out with people who make me feel bad about my ways, and I'm done with people who want me to be the version of me that they want me to be. I'm tired of being around people who make me feel negatively, or are just negative in general. I have that power to press delete, and so do you.
We often don't realize that we have to power to get rid of toxic relationships that we have. Whether they are platonic, or just love gone bad, we do in fact have the power to tell people to go away if we don't want them in our lives anymore. I rarely get upset about my relationships now, because the people that I hang out with make me feel good about myself, versus bad.
I feel like that's something that we all can take. Pressing delete can actually be a good thing.

"Let's Be Selfish, Let's Be Happy"

I've heard too many times that when you feel happiness, you're taking the bull by the horns and deciding what's best for you. In essence, you're putting yourself first. Your needs, wants, and desires. And, if someone doesn't like it, then you're shit out of luck. This left me wondering. Is the secret of happiness is in fact to be selfish?
We live in a very me, me, me, society. I want this. I want that. With the rise of online shopping, we can get whatever we want, at whatever hours. No more confinement of store hours, we can get that wonderful bag for a lot less.Even at three o'clock in the morning when you can't sleep. (you shouldn't probably buy stuff then). But whatever happened to being caring and nice? You know all of that good stuff?
I think that the secret of happiness is being able to balance being selfish, and being giving. If you're not happy doing that thing for other people, then you shouldn't be doing that. I think that it's important to give to others, because it makes them happy.
But, I also think there comes a certain point when what you want goes on the back burner. When you realize that you're living a life that is always everyone else's wants, desires, and needs. I think that's important to listen to your friend cry, but to a certain point. Of course, it's important for you to listen to what's wrong. That's in the formula of being a good friend. However, you have limits. For example, if that friend has a crisis every night, or that friend has become a bad influence on you, then you have to take a step back and realize that maybe you should cut them out. So, when she's crying to you and your giant mountain of homework is haunting you, you then remind her that you can listen for a half of an hour, tops. Then you have to do your homework.
Setting boundaries like that is what I think keeps relationships healthy. A healthy relationship is a happy relationship. Cliche, but completely and totally true. My personal favorite example is friends. Friends who don't understand your limits and boundaries and just take from you aren't exactly the best people to have in your life. People that tell you what to do, and drag you around like a puppy on a leash aren't the people that you'd want to have in your life. A friend is supposed to bring you up when you're down, not kick you when you're down. The same goes for boyfriends, and other people in your life. You have to realize that you're a person, not someone's personal punching bag. I think that's a concept that everyone really needs to learn.
At the end of the day, I think it's important to be a combination of the both. Be selfish when you need to be, and give when you can. I think it's important to do what's best to make you happy, despite what others can think.

"The Shoe Finally Fits."

Cinderella's glass slipper

A year ago, if you asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up I would look you straight in the eye and say that I wanted to be a psychiatrist. I was a double major, and nothing could stop me. However, with psychology there was always some sort of limitations. Sometimes, the shoes didn't fit too right. Either they were too big, or they just weren't comfortable. I was invincible, and nothing could stop me.
Six months in my psychology career, something didn't fit right. I never had the feeling of this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. You know, the Eureka moment when the light bulb goes on in your head. During that time, I joined my school's paper. It was there when I had my aha moment. Whenever I wrote, the words came easy. Whenever I left my journalism class, I had the feeling of that's what I wanted to do with my life. Write interesting stories that gets people to think. Not sitting in an office telling patients what they should do to alleviate their depression.
I knew something was wrong, so I decided that it was time to drop psychology completely. I don't regret that decision because I know that I am truly happier with what I choose. Yes, I didn't complete my psychology program. But, if you have a problem with that, too bad because that's my decision.
Honestly, since I filled out the paperwork to become an English major again, I have no regrets. I feel less stressed out, and I worry about being perfect a little less. The shoe finally fits me like a glove, and it makes me happy to know that I am doing something that makes me happy. And yes, in case you're wondering, I am having my aha moments.

Not For Me

A lot of my friends are in relationships. Some of them tend to have more drama then others. If you want my opinion, and screw that I'm going to give you my opinion anyway because I believe it to be important. I hate drama. I hate crying and making myself upset because it seems completely stupid and pointless. Who likes crying and feeling sad? Honestly. Isn't the point of a relationship to be HAPPY? Hello, happy isn't crying with a tub of ice cream because you're fighting with someone. Happy isn't shutting yourself off from society until he calls or texts.
I feel like some of the girls out there have unrealistic expectations on what's expected of a man that their with.  They watch the Notebook, and they think that relationships are like that. Well, they aren't. First of all, Noah and Allie's relationship is one scripted by a writer. Your relationship is written by God. Two different writers. Hollywood paints such an illusion of relationships that I often find myself wondering when will my prince arrive? (okay once, but still) Due to this, we expect the man to do this in real life.
Crazy girlfriends have become the rage on Twitter,  YouTube and Facebook. I DO follow her because she's so entertaining. But I couldn't notice the unrealistic expectations that she has for her boyfriend. For example, texting multiple times (okay fine, I've done this before), calling a girl a whore for liking her boyfriend's status, and countless other crazy things. These things are more and more becoming into real life.
First of all, if this applies to you, maybe you should CHILL for a second.
Second of all, it leaves me wondering if I'm able to be in relationship. If a guy expects a girlfriend to do those things, then clearly it's acceptable. However, it's not me. I'm not in a relationship, but I wouldn't mind one. I don't plan on solely focusing on that, and making my relationship be my sole thing I have going for me. (I mean come on. Girl who falls in love and gets married and spits out children? Boring life story. Now girl who has a career, a family, a great romance, and not to mention an awesome car....that's what I'm talking about.) I have school. Grad school. A job to find. I have many books to read, a difference to make and people to help. I can't spend my time being unhappy because someone didn't call me. I think life's too short to be unhappy, and therefore why should I spend my life being sad.
If and when some guy is dumb enough to go out with me, I can guarantee that I won't do that unless he does something completely stupid or I have emotional reason to. I'm not trying to offend anyone who does fall into this category, I just don't fall into it. Is it bad? Maybe. But I want to be in a relationship that's happy and relaxed. Not one that makes me sad. Sad macs should just stay computers.
