"Equality for Everyone!" (Blog for A Cause, Day 1)

Welcome to the linkup of blog for a cause! This linkup is about focusing on a world that is outside of ourselves, onto something else that is greater than any of us. I am spreading awareness to help inform others of different things, because I believe that ignorance is something that is helpful to finding cures/happiness. This is a two day event, so be sure to tune into the other cause that is near and dear to my heart.

Many people don't understand what it's like to be different, and how hard it is to figure out who you really are may or may not be accepted by everyone. Whether it's discovering that you are bi or gay, discovering that you'd rather be known by a different gender than your birth one, or discovering that you're just not into anyone sexually, there's more to life than being a guy that likes a girl. Unfortunately, not many people realize that.
I am an ally of LGBTQIA network. Yes, that was a mouthful. It stands for Lesbian/Gay/Bi/Trans/Queer or Questioning/Intersex/Asexual. Being an ally simply means that you support the people that go by any of those things. This is something that I believe is important, because I feel like everyone should have equal rights, straight or not.
When I was younger, I was a bit more conservative than I am now. I now wonder if it's due to the fact  that I didn't have enough knowledge about the subject, or the way that I was exposed to the subject. (My family is still a bit more conservative than I'd like them to be). In high school, I met some lovely people through my friend Griffin. They were a part of our school's gay straight alliance, and were heavy advocates for the cause. During this time in high school we had days of silence, and wore purple in order in to raise awareness.
Meeting those people really opened my eyes, because it taught me that everyone deserves to have the same rights as others. To this day, it bothers me that people still think that being gay is a sickness that should be cured in some way shape or form. It's not. It also bothers me that people think that gay marriage is something that shouldn't happen because it's not between a man or a woman. Last time I checked, marriage is something that happens between two people that truly love each other, in addition to cherishing and respecting each other. It shouldn't matter whether or not they are a man and a woman, two men, two women, or two gender-queer people.
The biggest thing that bothers me the most is the fact that it's still not as accepted as it should be. I know people that throw the word 'faggot' like it's going out of style. Whenever I hear that word use in that manner I want to throw something at someone because it's something that has to stop. Same thing as the word 'gay.' Being gay isn't something that's bad, and using those words to describe something that is like saying that being gay is bad. Which is not. The same goes for people who are transgender. It's just the way that you're born, and what makes someone happy.
This is an issue, because I feel like many people still don't get it. I am a straight heterosexual woman, and that comes with it's own set of stereotypes. But it's still the norm. Gay/bi is still working it's way into the norm, which is something that should be celebrated. However, we often leave out the gender-queer people because of lack of information and lack of looking towards the color. I think that we live in a black and white society, and we often don't realize how giant the gray areas are. Gender-queer, which is when you don't register by a gender, is something that I've learned about through a friend, and is extremely difficult for one to explain. Not many people accept it, many get frustrated easily, and it's something that needs to be acknowledged. Gender is a tricky issue for some, and we have to realize that in many ways, shapes, and forms.
People should be accepted for who they really are, regardless of gender they chose to be, or who they love. Being different is difficult. But, I want to leave you all with this thought. Are they really that different? They are human, have blood going through their veins, breathe through lungs, and see the same world as we do. They cry at the same things. They eat the same foods, are subject to the same illness, and die in the same veins. Therefore, they should be treated like human beings.

Another Sunday Social.

Sunday Social
Hello everyone in the blogging world! Today I am linking up again with Ashley and Neely  for a linkup called Sunday Social! (I linked up with them last week as well, you can check that out here.)
Anyways without further a due, here's my Sunday Social this week.

1. What is one item you wish you could splurge on right now
Probably the Om Sacred Studs bangle for Alex and Ani. I have about 13 of the regular kind, but I don't like things that dangle very much. Therefore, I want this bangle in silver, however since I'm running a bit short on money (textbooks will do that to you, gotta love being in college), I'm going to have to wait a while. #christmaslist

2. If you had an entire weekend of no plans what would you do?
Go to the beach without a doubt. Either that or just watch tons of Gilmore Girls, seeing as I have the entire series on DVD.
3. What is the next place you are visiting outside of your current city?
Probably the beach or Griffin's college. Maybe even a grad school visit, since most of my schools tend to be in the city.
4. Are you a neat freak or a clutterbug?
Clutterbug with out a doubt. I try to be neat, but it always ends up being a giant mess again within the span of a couple of months. My mom is a neat freak to the ultimate extreme, and it's annoying because we often get into so many fights because of it.

5. What is your favorite summer purchase?
Either my Lokai bracelet, which is currently making it's way here (I prewrote this post, yay organized blogging!), or my ring. I can never pick just one thing.

Have a happy Sunday internet!

Sunday Social!

Sunday Social
Hello there internet! Today I'm linking up with Ashley   and Neely for their Sunday Social! I've done this linkup a few times before, but I am very excited to be doing it again!

1. One Show you would love to see on netflix that isn’t there
Hmm, this is a hard one. I would say 'Friends', because I've been dying to see that show. A close second is the 'Big Bang Theory'.  Also, I think that Netflix really should get updated seasons of  'New Girl' because I really would like to get caught up with it before the new season starts. Wait, you only said one? Oops.

2. One song you wish they would play more on the radio
'Ultraviolence' by Lana Del Rey. She's amazing and I feel like everyone should embrace the amazingness that is Lana Del Rey. However, I suppose it's a good thing that the radio didn't actually overplay the music.
3. Your favorite song to sing loudly to in the car
It's a tie between 'I Wanna Get Better' by Bleachers, and 'We Are Young' by fun.

4. What Movie/TV show do you quote the most?
Why can't I ever pick one thing? Anyways, it's a cross between 'Sex and the City', and 'Gilmore Girls'. Both have probably even been quoted on this blog at some time or another.

5. One silly thing you do daily
Probably have conversations with my dog as if she would talk to me back. I often do it when I'm on the phone with my friends, which annoys them to no end.  I am a crazy dog lady and I'm proud.

I'm The Girl Who...

I Am the Girl Link-Up
Hey guys, so this super-awesome blogger friend of mine named Emma emailed me a few weeks ago about this linkup and I couldn't help but think that this was an awesome idea. So, here's some of the awesome IDGAF things that make me...well me.
I'm that girl who has to drink coffee in order to function. Like clockwork folks, I am at the Keurig making my hazelnut coffee. It's a fun time, but it's just that necessary.

Who must always have french fries or sweet potato fries. Fries are my favorite food ever, and a must with a yummy wrap such as the one that I had above. They just make the meal! #sorrynotsorry

Who really doesn't care anymore. No matter what I do people are going to talk about me. Actually, kidding because no one really cares enough about me to talk about all of the time. Basically my philosophy is that people are either going to love you or they are going to hate you. So, do whatever you want that makes you happy, not just a bunch of people that are going to say whatever.
Who worries when you don't get a reply back from someone. I often freak out when my friends don't respond to my texts. However, I'm starting to learn that they are actually busy and don't hate me.
Who still writes in notebooks. At the beginning stages of my blog, I often used that as my personal diary which isn't exactly the coolest thing. More than a few times, I've had incidents where my blog had too personal things. Needless to say, no one's going near my personal journal. Unless of course you want the whole world to know your business, which in that case be my guest.

Who puts her friends first. My friends, especially Griffin, Emma, Elisia, and Gabriel, are the people that are most important to me besides my family. I hate it when people don't understand that it's important to maintain good friendships over the course of a lifetime, because I am so lucky to have found awesome and great friends such as them. Whenever I do meet someone, their going to have to find a balance in my crazy life. But their not the only person in my life that's important.
I'm that girl who binge-watches New Girl. Whose that girl? Whose that girl? It's Jess!
I'm that girl who believes that one's naked without jewelry. Hence why I wear A LOT of jewelry. #armcandy

Whose best friend is her dog. My dog is the best, end of story.

I'm that girl whose at home at the beach. I grew up on the beach, so naturally it's my favorite place in the world. (You can read about it here)
I'm that girl who photographs life. I love taking pictures, whether for Instagram, or just simply for fun. I love getting that perfect shot, and I'm really excited to show more of that in my blog!
Like the pictures? Check me out on my instagram!

Well, what kind of person are you? Join in on the fun! I am linking up with four lovely people including Emma, Lindsey, and Sami!

What do Graduations and Birthdays Equal?

The Rachael Way
Hi there everyone! I've decided to join Rachel and Lisa this Monday for their Weekly Wrap Up! Basically, I'm going to tell you about all of the crazy stuff that I've been up to this past week, when in reality it's not that exciting.
My Mom's Birthday!
On Saturday, my mom turned 53. Originally, I was planning to give her a gold Mom Alex and Ani, and take her out for lunch. However, that didn't happen, because Maggie, our Rhodesian Ridgeback got really sick. So we had to take her to the emergency pet room, where luckily she was diagnosed with a stomach bug. Unfortunately, it ruined any places to go anywhere, but we're planning to celebrate it on another day.

My Best Friend Elisia's 21st!
Also on Saturday, my best friend Elisa turned  21! (It was a hard decision choosing between her and my mom, but I went out for lunch with my mom, and dinner with her) We went to Olive Garden, where she ordered her very first legal drink! Happy birthday girl! I am so happy that I got to celebrate with you!
Griffin graduated high school!
For those of you who don't know, Griffin is one of my best friends. Naturally, I wouldn't miss his graduation from high school for the world! Since our town graduates in a football field, that made it even more possible. I'm glad that I was able to make it. Congrats, Griffin! I am very proud of you! Keep up being awesome!

"Let Me Tell You About My Best Friend."

Prom 2012
Gabriel has made frequent appearances on this blog. Whether it's them coming home, them going back to school, or them in general, Gabriel is a popular topic for a post. So, when National Best Friends Day became a thing, I couldn't think of none other than the one person in my life pretty much, that will ALWAYS have my back.

My high school graduation party.
Gabriel and I met when I was a senior in high school. We happened to have first period Expository Writing together. Expository Writing is a class that basically we just sat around and did nothing for extended periods of time. However, we didn't get close to the end of the semester. Luckily, we ended up having Soc together that second semester, where we really got close. Gabriel even ended up seeing my go to prom, in which they complained about mowing the lawn.

Gabriel and I; spring 2013
Through out my freshman year in college, I remained in close contact with Gabriel. We didn't see that much of each other my first semester, because Gabriel at the time was applying to college. However, that second semester it seems like we were always together. When Gabriel had decided to go to Mac, we realized that Gabriel wouldn't be around to..well make my life more interesting. And that's okay, because I knew that they would be extremely happy there. (Which they were.) When Gabriel graduated, they actually got a ticket for me to come and see them graduate. #bestfriendsforever
Saying goodbye in August to Gabriel was one of the saddest things that I've ever done. On one hand, I realized that they were truly happy there. On the other, I really was going to miss hanging out with Gabriel every single day. Their family was starting to feel like my own, and it was going to be wierd not having your best friend across town.

Graduation 2013
However, nothing other than the fact that they were halfway across the country changed. Now that's friendship. When Gabriel came back the first time, we literally smooshed each other while hugging because it was that important. The same goes when we first saw each other spring and summer breaks.

 Skyping

 Reunited! (Dec. 2013)

 Spring Break 2013
Gabriel and I are best friends for many reason. For one thing, I know that they will always have my back. Whenever I have a guy problem, or any problem, they are literally the person that I would call. They are always there for me, even when I'm not the nicest person in the world to them. I am so grateful that they are my best friend, because not many people in this world can say that they have a true friend like that. The same goes for them.
We have a very entertaining friendship, where we constantly argue. We can probably be compared to an old married couple. (We actually do joke about that.) Gabriel and I are never truly serious when we fight, or half of the time when we talk. Gabriel also inspires me to try new things such as food, and people. With that being said, they even inspire me to look in the world in a different way. It really doesn't matter that they do go to school really far away, because when we do see each other it's like we haven't even been apart. Thanks to calling and texting that is. (Gabriel also calls it blue messaging.) We truly get each other, and we have that relationship where we're always there for each other. That's why Gabriel is my best friend.
In the future, we plan to travel a lot, party together when I finally turn 21, and I can't wait to see Gabriel's school this upcoming fall.

You Don't Know About Me, But I Bet You Want To! #tmi

Okay, so before I begin I want to give a shout out to two extremely awesome bloggers that gave me the idea for this post. The first is my bloggy friend Hannah, from Words and Palindromes! The second is Catie from Books, Beauty, and Bars! Both of their posts are off the chain, so I suggest that you check it out! Thanks guys for this awesome blog idea, and you both are awesome bloggers!

1. What are you wearing?
Well, I am wearing clothing. Lauren Conrad black mixed media top, Lauren Conrad jeggings, and rainboats, because it's raining when I am writing this, and my rain boats are awesome. Needless to say, I am showing these off, despite the fact that I really hate rain. Also LC by Lauren Conrad is my favorite clothing line ever.

2. Do you have any tattoos?
Nope. Thinking about one...but nope.

3. Piercings?
I only have one in each other...but do earcuffs count? I got one of those!

4. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
Honestly, it depends on the morning. Sometimes, I don't have class til nine, so I often don't get anything ready cause hello, I like to sleep in. On those days, it takes about 15-20 minutes. On the days I have to rush it takes about ten days.
5. How tall are you?

I'm five 3-4. I've gotten so many different claims about my height though, so my permit says 5 three, so let's go with that!
6. Zodiac sign?
Cancer, ftw.

7. Favorite quote?
"Like everyone, and trust no one"-Lauren Conrad

8. OTP (One true pairing)?
Luke and Lorelei from Gilmore Girls.
10. What are your fears?
Heights.

11.  A place to visit?
I would like to visit Italy, but I love going to the library...even though I work there.

12. Favorite Color?
Purple. It was my prom dress!

I'm the The Type of Girl

This post was inspired by one of my favorite bloggers, Sam from Life Is But A Stream Of Thoughts. Read her post here.

I'm the type of girl....

  • Who prefers to write in purple pen.
  • Whose music taste is so diverse that I constantly run out of space on my iPod.
  • Who can't go a day without coffee or tea.
  • Who thinks cookies are the answers to just about everything.
  • Who has a bit of a sweet tooth.
  • Who has an obsession with Snoopy.
  • Who gets stressed out way to easily.
  • Whose perfectly at home in a library.
  • Who literally lives in leggings all day.
  • Who has an obsession with jewelry, but yet only wears a fraction of it.
  • Who literally must make a joke out of everything.
What kind of girl (or guy) are you? Comment below!

Why I Love My Blog; Belated Bloglatine's Day

Hey guys! So I'm linking up with I Have A Messy Bun, and Noor's Place, and doing a link-up called Blogatine's Day, which is in honor of our blogs. I've decided to take a moment to honor my blog, to make sure that it feels loved. I'm so excited to be linking up with them, and to show some bloggy love. Even though it's a day late. But hey, better late then never right? Am I right?

Why Do I Love My Blog?
I love my blog because I have a place where I can truly be myself. I love that I can write about anything I want, whenever I want, and have it still be awesome. Over the years, my writing abilities have expanded, as did my blog. I'm so proud to call myself a blogger.
I love my blog, because it's me. I love being able to write about things that I love. I like that sometimes, on Mondays I can write about the music that I love. I like that I can talk about subjects that I like to read, and write what's on my mind. I can't really explain it better than that. It's just great to have my own place to shine. The internet has that power to it, doesn't it?
What I like best about blogging is the sense of community. In the short time that I've been aware of it, I've been a huge fan. I think that it's so great that there's thousands of others who blog just like me. Even though I will never meet them, I know that these people are awesome. (Except Emma from The World According to Emma) I actually go to the same school has her. But blogs like Sunshine and SinatraLife is But a Stream of Thoughts, and countless others remind me that I'm not the only one here doing this blog thing. And that makes me feel awesome. I love doing linkups, because it's a great opportunity to meet new bloggers and see what they love to write about. I'm looking forward to having new favorite blogs to read in the future.
So, in essence, that's why I love my little blog.

Sunday Social!

Sunday Social
Hey guys, I've decided to join this linkup called Sunday Social, where you answer questions. On Sunday. So, here's my answers to this week's questions;

  • What is your favorite thing to watch on girl's night?
Something super romantic and cheesy-like a Nicholas Sparks movie. I don't know why but a lot of my friends and I are into those super cry me a river kind of movies. Another favorite is Titanic, because come on it's a classic.
  •  What is your favorite thing to watch on your day off?
A favorite has to be Gilmore Girls, mainly cause I have the entire series on DVD. Basically any sitcom would do.  I'm also a fan of the Golden Girls, Sex and the City, Fraiser, and Secret Life.

  • What is your favorite thing to watch when you're sick?
Whatever's on TV really. I'm so lazy that I just watch random television.
  • What is the last movie you saw in the theater?
American Hustle! Read my review!
  • What are your top three favorite movies or tv shows?
Gilmore Girls, Sex and the City, and Nashville.
