If I Could Redo Prom

Prom season for many is either here or fast approaching and for the last three years, it would always bring some sense of nostalgia. So I got to thinking about something. If I could ever get the chance to go back and redo prom, what kind of dress would it be?
First let me tell you about my prom dress. A wedding shop in the next city over happened to be putting all of their gowns on extreme clearance. So, my mom and I managed to score this $350 gown for only $100 (minus alterations, because I'm short.)

Anyways, if I ever went to prom again or had the chance to redo it, I would wear black. I've always been into wearing black because it's such a classic color for anyone to wear. My biggest inspiration of the black dress would have to be none other than Miss Holly Golightly, aka none other than Miss Audrey Hepburn. If I could, I would rock the LBD/Pearls look like nobody's business. If only I was obsessed with Audrey back in high school..

In addition to Audrey, I would wear any kind of black dress. This one's my favorite because of the lace. I like how timeless it is, because after all who can go wrong with black?

The final type of dress that I would get is a dress inspired by Cinderella. I'm talking about the light blue gown with the sparkles. #perfect I'm in love with these dresses because the color is beautiful as well as the design. Now, I just need a glass slipper. (Attention single guys everywhere--my Prince Charming vacancy is open ;) )

When Did Prom Posals Become a Thing?

My prom date and I circa 2012
Back  in 2012, I remember the excitement of prom. I remember being so happy that I was going with my best guy friend who I had a crush on. I remember my friends were all fighting with each other, because of some reason that I can't remember now. I remember how beautiful I felt as I put on my pretty purple dress (see above.) I remember how great of a night it was, and how much hype there was. Oh how I miss high school.
Nowadays, there's a thing called promposals where you get some big elaborate plan to well..ask someone to prom. Kind of like you're proposing marriage but the high school verison of that. My question is when did that become a thing?
Back in my day we just went up to the person and hoped that they said yes. Now you need flowers, teddy bears, and who knows what else?
Griffin (aka the lovely dude in the picture) I'm going to have to ask for a refund. (actually, I am kidding-my prom was awesome because of you.) I remember being asked to my prom. It was over a breadbowl at Panera, and he asked if he'd be interested if I needed a date. (not the exact words, since I can't remember them)
In my opinion prom posals are similar to Valentine's Day-cheesy and if you don't get one of your own, very upsetting and excluding. I understand the need for a grand gesture to woo someone to get them to say yes. But, the thing is flowers, stuffed animals and other romantic things won't get someone to love you. Yes, they will be impressed. (I know that I would be-not going to lie.) However, if they say no it will be humilating.
Prom is one of those important 'right of passages' things in high school. I remember secretly being so excited about it. I remember that night, being the only one of my friends who had a date and of course the excitement of finding the perfect dress.
However, when did it become so cliche? When did it become a contest for a guy to ask a girl to prom in some grand way? Isn't high school a big enough of a popularity contest? Where did it all start in the first place?
It must have been after I had left high school.
As prom season nears, I'll be looking at the dresses of some of my younger friends and feeling old that my own prom was 3 years ago. Will prom posals become a regular thing? Stay tuned.

"Belle of the Ball."

Prom season is fast amongst us, and I can't help but be reminded of my prom. It was, can you believe two years ago, and I can't believe how fast time goes. I kinda wish that I took more pictures, and like many of my peers, I kind of wish that I had the chance to go another one. However, here's a look back at my high school prom.
My dress was purple, because duh, purple's my favorite color. I got a really good deal on the dress, because it was originally over $300 dollars, however it was only $99. I loved this dress, because when I was wearing it I felt like I was wearing a dress from Titanic. #sorrynotsorry
I also went with my best friend, Griffin. He was actually sick that day, so it was cool because he still showed up. Here's my corsage. He even texted me the week before and asked what kind of flowers I want. We're actually still really close today for some unforshaken reason. I'm glad that we went as friends, because in some ways it took the pressure off. We even awkwardly slow danced, which was awkward because he's about ten inches taller than me. I hope that he's not sick when he goes to his prom this year!

I also got to see some of my friends before I went off to prom. It was really exciting, however without a doubt my personal favorite moment of my prom was Gabriel coming to see me. Gabriel was complaining the entire time about mowing the lawn, so he took his dad's keys, and came to see me. Gabriel was also late, which is very typical Gabriel behavior. To this day, I will never let him live that down.

What was your prom like?
