Last Minute Gift Ideas

So, Valentine's Day is well tomorrow, and you didn't get your significant other some sort of gift to show how much you love them. Oops. Well, have no fear! Here's some ideas for the men to get their ladies (and vice versa!) And yes, let's keep it a secret that you almost forgot about Valentine's Day.

  • This idea is totally perfect for both sexes. Making a mix tape, or a CD with some of your favorite love songs. (Need some ideas? Here's my faves) Or put some songs that you probably talked about with that other person, or has some meaning for the two of you. This is perhaps one of my signature gifts for people because I believe that music is one of the best gifts ever. I put a lot of thought in my CDs, so therefore if you're trying to impress someone with your music skills, give this a shot.
  • For the gentlemen out there, you should give your women Alex and Ani! It's perfect, because they have a lot of meaning behind the bracelet. If you're stuck on what to get your girl, consider the Skeleton Key one. (You know cause you hold the key to my heart kind of thing.)
  • On the subject of jewelry, basically getting anything heart shaped on some kind of metal is always a thumbs up. A personal idea of something I would love is a locket with a picture of the two of you. How romantic!
  • A movie with a coupon for a movie night. I don't know why, but this screams romance for me.

  • Candy. Cupcakes. Cookies. Yeah, anything sweet would apply. I've heard that the way to a person's heart is their stomach. That's kind of true, especially with me, cause I love food. Brownie points if you made it for them yourself.
  • Last but certainly not least, is to channel your inner Shakespeare by writing a poem for them. That's the way to woo your sweetheart fo shure.
There, now go hit the mall, your computer, your oven, whatever. You got this.

Society and the Single Girl on Valentine's Day.

Okay, so every year like clockwork it happens. On Feb 14th, my social networking feeds I see them clouded with people talking about one thing. Their boyfriends, their girlfriends, whoever they are trying to impress or woo. People that they love, and they just really want everyone that they follow or that they are friends with to know. And for the people who don't have anyone to do that for them, it just kind of sucks. In my opinion anyways.
One thing that I really don't like about Valentine's Day is that it raises the bar of what we expect people to be. I think that we don't need a day in the calendar year for someone to buy us diamonds, and tell us that we are the best part of their existence. Yes, I am aware that it's nice. However, I think that there should be more to it than just that. I think that if you love someone, than you shouldn't have to do it on command, rather you should do it when you want to. I think that it adds a lot of pressure to relationships, because if someone doesn't buy you roses today then they are the worst person ever. It makes the guy sweat over something that has to be perfect. It makes them do or say things that perhaps they shouldn't be saying because they don't actually mean it, and are going along with it for the whole reason on what that's what Valentine's Day is supposed to be about.
As someone who got rejected one Valentine's Day (It was 8th grade when no one really understood relationships anyways), I can honestly say that Valentine's Day does have that effect on some people. However, I realize something else. Just because you don't have a Valentine doesn't mean you can't celebrate it.
This year, I've decided to totally decided to embrace the whole day of love kind of thing. I've painted my nails red and pink, in honor of the day of love kind of thing. I even bought some Valentine's to send to some of my friends that are farther away, and a few to my family and friends. I've gotten some Valentine's Day themed cupcakes, just because cupcakes are awesome. On Friday, I don't have any interesting plans other than to hang out with my dog, and just watch movies or Gilmore Girls. I've gotten a long weekend from school, so I have the day off. And that's okay, because I know that my day is going to be awesome nonetheless.
Wanna do something, and you find yourself Valentineless? No prob. Grab a movie, go shopping, and most important grab your single girls. You all will have a better time than those people in relationships anyways.

"Let's Talk About Love."

It's safe to say that there's different kinds of love. There's infatuation, which can be upright annoying. True love, which is what we all want at the end of the day. In psychology there is a theory called the triangular theory of love which was developed by Robert Sternberg.
In the context of relationships, that means that there's three components of love. The first component of love is intimacy, which is the feeling of attachment, and how connected you are to someone. The second is passion which brings out how we are attracted to someone sexually. The third is commitment, which is the plans that we have with that other person, whether short or long term that we have for that person in mind.
Now, let's take those three components that I just mentioned and place it into another concept. Our everyday relationships. Chances are you love many people in different ways, am I right? Well, here's the different kinds of love, psychology style.

  • Nonlove; there's none of the three components mentioned.

  • Liking/Friendship; The feeling that you have with friends, and anyone that you are involved in a platonic sense. (Friendzoning someone applies here too)
  • Infatuated Love; This is how romantic relationships are started. This is the "I want you now.." aspect of a relationship. Often, if it's meant to last, as people get closer, than true love will somehow develop. This is more the obsessive aspect of love. This is the aspect of passion, without intimacy, which of course occurs later.
  • Empty Love; This is the aspect of a loveless marriage; committment with out the intimacy or the passion. Basically you're loving someone with the aspect of using them for some sort of thing. Whether it's money or for the sake of having someone, it's up to you.
  • Romantic Love; A combination of the intimacy and passion aspects. They are drawn together by two things-physical and romantic. However, there's not sort of commitment to them. I guess we can define this as friends with benefits.
  • Companion Love; It's intimate, and has commitment. It's stronger than friendship, however, there's no sort of passion. One can say that you find this in long marriages when the passion runs out. This also an example of family love.
  • Fatuous Love; You know those whirlwind relationships or marriages? Yeah this is it. No intimacy here my friends.
  • Consummate Love; The complete form of love that has all of these components! This is the kind of love that everyone wants out there. These peeps can't imagine themselves in the longterm with anyone else but that said loved one. However, you guys in this love need to express it, or else we can turn this into companion love. This is the dictionary definition of meant to me
There you go, folks. What kind of love are you in?

Sunday Social!

Sunday Social
Hey guys, I've decided to join this linkup called Sunday Social, where you answer questions. On Sunday. So, here's my answers to this week's questions;

  • What is your favorite thing to watch on girl's night?
Something super romantic and cheesy-like a Nicholas Sparks movie. I don't know why but a lot of my friends and I are into those super cry me a river kind of movies. Another favorite is Titanic, because come on it's a classic.
  •  What is your favorite thing to watch on your day off?
A favorite has to be Gilmore Girls, mainly cause I have the entire series on DVD. Basically any sitcom would do.  I'm also a fan of the Golden Girls, Sex and the City, Fraiser, and Secret Life.

  • What is your favorite thing to watch when you're sick?
Whatever's on TV really. I'm so lazy that I just watch random television.
  • What is the last movie you saw in the theater?
American Hustle! Read my review!
  • What are your top three favorite movies or tv shows?
Gilmore Girls, Sex and the City, and Nashville.

"Let it Go, Let it Go"

Source
I believe that the most toxic thing in the world is to hold onto someone or something that hurt you years ago into the present day. I think that's important because otherwise it bleeds into your present day well-being and relationships.
Yes someone hurt you. They broke your heart, stomped on it, and as you attempt to pick up the pieces, they just stand there and laugh. They are the reason why you developed those giant walls that Humpty Dumpty would die falling off of. They are the reason why you won't stick your head out of the bushes and join the party.
But, hello. Newsflash. There's a thousand and one idiots out there who break heart so well that they can do it for a living. It's nothing to them. They are everywhere, from high school cafeteria, school campuses, and street corners. However, we have to realize that  there's more to a relationships than just the professional heart-breaker.
So, that's when we learn to let it go. Let the pain that we once felt live in one place-the past. That's where it belongs. By holding onto it, you are letting it affect your present. You're also doing one thing. You're letting them win. Yeah, you don't want to do that. So, let it go like a bunch of balloons that are bunched up and tied together, headed for the sky. Be happy, because you deserve to be. The fact that you've suffered heartbreak is the proof that you deserve it more than you think.
So my take home message? Someone broke your heart yes. But don't let them affect you now when they are already on to the next one. Chances are they may or may not be a professional heartbreak like the jerk that broke your heart.
